Jacob Benda completed his dissertation on Clarence Mader and has made it available here. This monograph entitled, "The Stylistic Variance and Underlying Unity in Selected Organ Works by Clarence Mader," presents valuable and interesting information about Mader's life and work.
About the Author
Jacob Benda was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota where he began his piano studies as a child. Earning degrees and awards in both piano and organ performance, he began organ instruction in 2007 with Dr. Herndon Spillman and has been featured as a solo recitalist throughout the United States. In 2014 he recorded the first compact disc featuring the organ music of Clarence Mader entitled, Music at Midnight: A Tonal Palette - Selected Organ Works by Clarence Mader (released November 2014 on the Centaur Label). This recording has been featured on PIPEDREAMS.
Soon after receiving his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Louisiana State University in 2015, Dr. Benda relocated to the Twin Cities and currently serves as the Director of Music and Liturgy at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington, MN. In addition to maintaining an active concert career he serves on the Board of Directors for the Ruth and Clarence Mader Memorial Scholarship Fund, and is a member of the Program Committee for the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
